The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens

The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens has been home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for over 800 years. Today, this stunning medieval Palace and its 14 acres of RHS Partner Garden are open seven days a week for visitors to explore and enjoy.

Home to the iconic wells that give the city its name, a magnificent moat, the famous bell-ringing swans, an 800-year-old Palace, the atmospheric ruins of the Great Hall and the award-winning Bishop’s Table café, there is plenty to discover throughout the year.

Younger visitors can let their imaginations run wild in The Dragon’s Lair and Splash Play Zone, a large creative play area hidden within the Arboretum. Throughout the year, the Palace also hosts a varied programme of family and community days, historical re-enactments, exhibitions, theatre, concerts, workshops and daily tours.

Whether discovering Wells’ fascinating history, exploring the gardens, enjoying an event or simply taking time to appreciate this unique setting, The Bishop’s Palace offers something for visitors of all ages.
